A Comparison of Three Major Baccarat Variants

Punto Banco, Baccarat Banque, and Chemin de Fer are three major baccarat variants. These are baccarat variants that you might have seen before but were unable to immediately recognize. There are some observable differences in these variations but the overall game play will be quite similar among the three.

Punto Banco: Punto Banco is one of the major baccarat variants. This game is traditionally played on an oval shaped table. You'll usually find six up to eight decks in use for this game. Only the croupier and the dealers can shuffle the deck. Cards are first dealt to players in the variant and then cards will be dealt to the banker.

In this baccarat variant, everyone will be dealt an initial hand consisting of a pair of cards, which means the banker also gets two cards for himself. The sum of your hand value will be called by the croupier as the game goes along. This baccarat variant also uses the same standard rules to determine if a third card is required to be added to any hand.

Chemin de Fer: This kind of baccarat game uses six decks per game. One distinguishing item for this game is the little basket you'll find in the middle of the table. All the used cards in Chemin de Fer go into this basket. The croupier is the first to shuffle the deck; however, players get the opportunity to do this in the succeeding rounds.

After the cards are shuffled, they are laid in front of everyone on the baccarat table. One of the players on the table will act as the banker and the other players become the punters. The role of banker switches from one player to another. The banker in Chemin de Fer is given a bunch of cards by the croupier to deal. Punters have the option to play against the banker and say 'banco' for them to do so.

Baccarat Banque: Baccarat Banque is our third baccarat variant. The role of banker in this variant will not switch from player to another for the duration of an entire shoe. Only three decks will be in use in the game of Baccarat Banque.

The banker will be risking a bigger amount of money than all the other players and will continue to do so until all the cards in the shoe are dealt. The only time that a new banker is called will be when the current banker retires or loses. The new banker takes up the amount of the wager where the previous banker left off.

You'll find these baccarat variants played in many casinos worldwide. The general rules of play apply to all these baccarat variants in spite of distinct differences in game play.
